Gresswell joins Army ranks

One of the civilian brass band world's finest tuba players has been lending his experience to benefit the tuba teams of the British Army.

Simon and tubas

Yamaha Neo Performing artist Simon Gresswell recently spent an enjoyable day working with the professional brass band musicians of the British Army.

Invitation

Simon was invited to work with the tuba section of The Band of The King's Division, one of the British Army’s three professional brass bands based in Weeton near Preston.

Simon not only joined in rehearsals with the band, but also worked extensively with the tuba team, sharing over 30 years or more of his playing experience, tips and advice.

Tremendous

An Army spokesperson told 4BR: “Simon was tremendous, and we couldn’t have asked for anyone better to work with. The vast experience, knowledge and craft Simon has gained over the years is priceless, and to have him share that with us was of huge benefit.”

Beneficial

They added: “We hope to be able to link up with Simon again and our thanks go to Yamaha for their help and support in making this possible.

It really does show that the opening up of links between the army and civilian brass banding worlds is hugely beneficial.”
