European Brass Band Association has announced the names of the trio of finalist whose works will be showcased in the hope of winning the 6th European Composers Competition in Freiburg in Germany in May.
Three compositions
The three compositions, ‘... as a Glow’, ‘L'effet divers’ and ‘Symmetricoil’ have been written (although in particular order) by composers Ludovic Neurohr (Switzerland), Stan Nieuwenhuis (Belgium) and Christian Overhead (Netherlands), and will be performed by Jugend Brass Band Nordrhein-Westfalen (Youth Brass Band Northrhine-Westfalia), conducted by Martin Schädlich.
There were 15 initial entries considered, with the final three to be performed in the final at the Konzerthaus Freiburg on Thursday 30th April, as part of the 2015 European Brass Band Championship.
Winner
The winner will receive a first prize of €2500, with prizes of €2000, €1500 and €500 (audience prize) and €500 (band prize), respectively.
The event will also feature a short concert by the European Youth Brass Band, conducted by Prof. Uwe Köller.
Previous winners include Simon Dobson, Bertrand Moren, Kevin Houben and Paul McGhee, all of who have gone on to write extensively and successfully for brass bands.
