Old Hall Brass in the North West area has started planning for the future with the establishment of a brand new youth band.
1 hour a week
The senior ensemble's talented solo horn player Sarah Baxendale will take on the conducting duties and will be assisted in the musical development of the new band by Old Hall Brass MD, John North.
The 1 hour rehearsals will take place every Thursday evening from 7.15pm at the Old Hall band room and the venture is open to anyone — young or old, who wishes to enjoy or start to learn by playing in a brass band.
Young and old welcome
Band Chairman, John Sudworth, told 4BR: "We are delighted to be able to promote and support a youth band, although older learners are welcome!
This will hopefully will protect the long term future of both Old Hall Brass and the movement in general. A lot of younger players have moved through the ranks in the recent past and we would like this to continue to happen so that the band continues to progress and strengthen."
Lots of ideas
Meanwhile, new MD Sarah Baxendale added: "I'm very excited by this opportunity. I've got lots of ideas and can't wait to get stuck in!"

Fantastic project
Senior Band MD, John North certainly agreed, as he told 4BR: "This is a fantastic project under the watchful eyes of many experienced players from the senior band.
We now have an opportunity to tutor and guide youngsters, not only into fine musicians — but also we will teach them about other important values in banding like team-work and loyalty."
