The death has been announced of Trevor Cardwell, who passed away peacefully on 10th January at home in Bridlington. He was 74.
Brought up in Bradford, Trevor felt privileged to be a founder member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain in 1952 — the youngest player at just 11 years of age.
He played every year until he was eighteen and went on to become a respected euphonium player for Bradford Victoria Band before moving to the Brighouse & Rastrick in 1966 on solo baritone — a role he held for the next three years.
Break
After taking a break from banding to concentrate on his banking career and family, he returned to 20 years later after a chance meeting with a player from the Melton Borough Band.
After being lent an instrument and told to just pop down when he was ready, Trevor rekindled his love of brass and he went onto be associated with Melton for the next five years.
Back to baritone
After a move to Hull, Trevor joined Cleethorpes Silver before joining closer to home Hessle Band and then East Yorkshire Brass, again playing solo baritone as they progressed through to the Championship section.
Trevor was well known in the East Yorkshire Area and after retiring from playing became a regular listener of brass band concerts where he was well respected by his fellow his musicians. His character, musical knowledge and humour shall be greatly missed.
