Butlins gets ready for Jager bombs...

The sound of a oompah will return to British banding this year as the Jäger Maestros Oompah Band make their Butlins debut...

Jager

At this month’s Butlins Mineworkers Championship in Skegness, audiences and competitors alike will be able to enjoy an entertaining new act that has gained quite a musical following over the past year — The Jäger Maestros Oompah Band.

Impression

Created in June 2013 by a collection of brass musicians from the likes of Black Dyke, Brighouse & Rastrick and Foden’s, and fronted by Chris Haigh, a brass band loving stand-up comedian from Manchester’s comedy clubs, The Jäger Maestros have certainly created quite an impression on the concert stage.

‘The Jägers’ have also gained a plethora of high profile followers — such as trumpet superstar Jens Lindemann (who has already performed with the band) and tuba virtuoso Les Neish to name a few, who have been won over by their classic mix of traditional oompah music alongside modern greats and a series of audience-participation numbers that have the crowds bouncing, swaying and stein-swigging (or pint drinking in Imperial measurement UK).

Celebrations

The band has already been signed up to perform in popular Bierkeller venues in the heart of Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Blackpool, regularly selling out stag and hen parties, work and birthday celebrations.

The current line up includes Lee Rigg, Paul Duffy, Neale Hobson and Lindsay Marson on trumpet, Ryan Watkins, Ben Wright, Garrath Beckwith and James Garlick on baritone, trombones and euphonium, with Matt Hindle/Mick Morris on tuba and Matt Rigg/Anthony Mann on drums.

Fantastic entertainment

So, as Foden’s solo euphonium player Glyn Williams confirmed: “They are fantastic entertainment, backed up with clever music arrangements, superb playing and the inimitable Chris Haigh as front man. That combination cannot be bettered!", and as Jens Lindemann agreed: “These guys are crazy! A killer. Absolutely awesome!”, why not enjoy them yourselves in Skegness.

Reds

The Jäger Maestros will be performing in the Reds venue on Saturday night, on the 17th January 2015.
