Busy Baker set for Mythical connection...

Trombone star Brett Baker will be having a busy Christmas looking forward to some musical myths and legends of his own...

Brett Baker

It will be a busy festive period for trombone star Brett Baker this year as he starts preparing for an exciting new recording project.

Myths & Legends

Brett will join forces with the Flowers Band to produce a CD with a difference. Entitled ‘Myths & Legends’, it will feature works by Christopher Bond, Dan Price, Richard Rock, Dorothy Gates, Andrea Price, Andrew Mackereth, Peter Byron-Smith, Simon Oliver, Matthew Hall, Roger Trigg, Lucy Pankhurst and Huw Cole — each providing a work based on the myths and legends theme.

Exciting concept

Brett told 4BR: “It’s a really exciting concept — especially as I have no idea what these great composers will come up with.

I’m keen on the compositions being a duet between trombone and band, rather than just solo features, so this will give the composers even greater freedom to explore something different.”

Narrative theme

Christopher Bond, the recently appointed Associate Composer to the Cory Band, will have the challenging task of knitting the works together to form a narrative whole, whilst Dan and Andrea Price are linking their pieces within the middle of the CD.

Christopher commented: “It’s definitely a unique project so drawing it all together to form a cohesive narrative theme will be an exciting challenge for me — but one that has so much potential.”

It’s a really exciting concept — especially as I have no idea what these great composers will come up withBrett Baker

Highlight

Brett added: “I’ve already had sketches from some composers and three complete works and I’m thrilled at what I have so far – although they do look very difficult!

Another highlight will be playing a duet with my good friend Guy Conter from Luxembourg, who I’m spending Xmas with this year due to playing in Esch for a concert on Boxing Day.”
