4BR has been informed that a proposed Winter Wonderland ‘Brass Christmas Cracker’ contest designed by the innovative organisers to help bands enjoy an early stocking-full of prize money for entering into the musical festive spirit, has had to be cancelled.
Christmas theme
The event was due to take place at the Magna Science Park in Rotherham this weekend, and was open to bands of all levels — with the only stipulation being that they have to provide a Christmas themed entertainment programme.
Relaxed rules
With relaxed rules on presentation (bands could literally present a programme of their own making) the organisers hoped to encourage a family orientated atmosphere full of festive fun — with a first prize of £1,200 for the band that tickled the fancy most! There were also additional prizes of £800, £600 and £400.
However, with just four bands wanting to take part, and two of those only wishing to perform in the evening, the contest organisers in consultation with the venue had to take the difficult decision and cancel the event.

Huge disappointment
Robert Brown, who also helps to organise the popular Whiston Festival of Brass told 4BR: “It’s a huge disappointment — although we hope to try again next year.
