The talented young performers of the Beaumaris Youth Band will round off an incredible musical year as they get ready for their appearance at the Brass in Concert Championships in Gateshead on the weekend.
Albert Hall
The band has just caught its breath after giving an outstanding performance at this year’s ‘Music for Youth’ Schools Prom festival on Monday night at the Royal Albert Hall (above), performing two pieces written by Musical Director, Gwyn Evans.
‘Llongau Caernarfon’ and ‘Tonnau'r Cawr’ were written by him for their victorious Action Research National Youth Entertainment Championship programme in Blackpool in February, and their reprise performances in London proved to be a huge hit with the audience as large sections got to their feet in appreciation as the last note echoed around the huge auditorium.
Sage showcase
This year has also seen the Angelsey band nominated for an ‘Innovation in Music’ award at the Music for Youth National Festival at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall in July — and now they are heading to The Sage to showcase their talents alongside some of the branding world’s finest Championship bands.
Incredible
"It's been an incredible 12 months," Gwyn told 4BR. "Sometimes I have to take a step back to remind myself that these musicians are so young. The average age of the band in Blackpool and the Albert Hall was just 14, but the sound they manage to produce is incredible."
He added: "It's an absolute pleasure to work with such a talented group of young musicians. It really makes those hours in the band room in Beaumaris worthwhile."

Two concerts
As Action Research Youth Champion, the band will provide the entertainment at Sunday's competition before the announcement of the results, as well as giving a Saturday afternoon concert on the concourse at the iconic venue on the banks of the River Tyne.
"The young musicians have enjoyed some incredible opportunities this year," added Gwyn.
"One thing's for sure, it's going to be difficult to top the 12 months we've just had ... but we'll give it a damn good try!"
