Music from one of the world’s leading popular composers will be featured by Grimethorpe Colliery Band in their appearance at the World of Brass in Concert Gala Concert at The Sage in Gateshead on Saturday evening.
The band will premiere ‘Gloria’ by Karl Jenkins in celebration of the Welsh composer’s 70th birthday.

Arranged by Salvationist musician Andrew Wainwright, it will also mark the official release of the work by Prima Vista Musikk, and will see Dr Robert Childs once again link up with music from a composer he has worked tirelessly to promote within the brass band world over the past decade or more.
Andrew Wainwright also made a critically acclaimed arrangement of the composer’s ‘The Armed Man’, with ‘Gloria’ a large scale, five movement work inspired by the Ordinary Mass — from Proclamation, through Prayer, Psalm, Song and Exaltation.
Iconic text
Karl Jenkins explained his approach to 4BR: “The Gloria has formed part of the Ordinary of the Mass for many centuries, and in that context has been set by many composers — there being independent settings by the likes of Handel, Vivaldi and Poulenc.
However, the chance to work with such an iconic text also afforded me an opportunity to explore how other religions perceive the Divine."

Delighted
Dr Robert Childs is delighted that he is able to lead the world premiere of the new arrnagment: "Having previously worked with Karl on several projects including his EMI Album ‘This Land of Ours’, I'm honoured to be giving the first performance of this new arrangement.
As you'd expect, the music is beautiful and Andrew has done a terrific job in setting the work for brass band."
Gloria will be released by Prima Vista Musikk later this month as part of their ongoing Karl Jenkins Collection for Brass Band.
