The Royal Northern College of Music will officially re-open its main concert hall this evening following an extensive £7.1 million redevelopment.

Originally constructed in 1973, the massive undertaking has turned the auditorium into a air conditioned 730 seat performance venue, with the installation of a brand balconies, sound system, flooring and seating, as well as additional teaching spaces, dressing rooms and other facilities.

The hall will also be one of the first concert venues in the UK to be fully lit by LEDs lighting, whilst the only remaining feature of the old hall still in its original place is the distinctive organ.

The annual RNCM Festival of Brass and National Youth Brass Championships of Great Britain will return to the hall in 20154BR

Opening

The famous British baritone Sir Thomas Allen will perform Schubert’s song cycle ‘Winterreise’ at the opening concert, with the school’s founding principal Sir John Manduell in attendance as a guest of honour.

The annual RNCM Festival of Brass and National Youth Brass Championships of Great Britain will return to the hall in 2015.
