As part of their preparation for their forthcoming appearance at the North Wales Brass Band Championship, Deiniolen Youth Band players enjoyed a masterclass day with conductor Gareth Ritter.

Masterclass

The MD of Ebbw Valley, the recently crowned Third Section National Champion Band of Great Britain, headed to north Wales to work with 35 youth members on their own choice test piece selection for the contest.

Great day

It proved to be a great day for everyone involved as Deiniolen Youth MD Osian Tomos told 4BR: "We were delighted to welcome Gareth to give a masterclass as part of our contest preparation, especially following his recent success at Cheltenham.

The members loved every minute. He’s got great enthusiasm which was passed on to the band and we are looking forward to working with him again in the near future. The contest can’t come soon enough now for our young players."

I’ve always been a strong believer that youth should be encouraged and Deiniolen clearly have a strong future ahead of themGareth Ritter

Strong future

Gareth himself added: "I enjoyed every minute of it. I’ve always been a strong believer that youth should be encouraged and Deiniolen clearly have a strong future ahead of them.

They are a wonderful group of youngsters and extremely musical. The band clearly has a great conductor in Osian and excellent tutors working with him. I look forward to finding out how they did at the contest."
