Butterworth appearance on Countryfile

91 year old composer Arthur Butterworth has made a welcome musical appearance on the BBC television programme 'Countryfile'.

Last weekend’s BBC Countryfile television programme featured the works of many of Britain’s finest composers, from Vaughan Williams and Benjamin Britten to Arthur Butterworth.

Musical Landscape

Entitled ‘A Musical Landscape’ it saw a very sprightly 91 year Arthur Butterworth taking to the Yorkshire Moors to be interviewed about the inspiration behind his ‘Dales Suite’ – with the composer illustrating the opening motif by playing it on trumpet.

He described the minor motif as, ‘…like struggling to the top of the hill — like the sun rising’
