The two bands which make up Great Yarmouth Future Brass recently joined forces with Great Yarmouth Brass for a massed bands concert in their home town.
Youth winner
The young members of GYB Future Brass were proudly wearing their new polo shirts for a community event that also saw them hold their youth solo contest, with the winner given the opportunity to play their solo in the evening concert.
The winner was EEb tuba player James Small, aged 12, who delighted the audience with his confident performance of ‘The Sergeant’s Song’ accompanied by the senior Great Yarmouth Band.
Shield
James, who only very recently switched from trumpet to the tuba, is the first recipient of the Ron Larkins Memorial Shield, which was presented to him by Ron’s daughter Marion.
The Youth Band performed items such as ‘Grease’, ‘Disney Matters’ and ‘Ob La Di Ob La Da’, conducted by Richard Ward, and also ‘Trumpet Voluntary’ and ‘Slaidburn’ as joint items with the Senior Band.
Frozen
The senior outfit conducted by Colin Swaep, included highlights from ‘Frozen’ much to the delight of the many young people present, as well as paying tribute to Ron Larkins with an excerpt from ‘Fire in the Blood’ and one of Ron’s favourites, ‘Singing in the Rain’.
