Lanner & District Band’s Centre of Musical Excellence recently hosted the final concert of their summer season of events which helped raise funds for research into Motor Neurone disease.
Farewells
The evening also marked a brace of farewells, with horn player Emily Evans making her final appearance with the band before taking up studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and Nessa Cawte also giving her final performance before leaving Cornwall to study mathematics at Aberystwyth University.
Earlier in the evening, a bucket was placed on stage to be filled with donations for the charity — the result of which also saw Musical Director, Stuart Chappell and Band Chairman, Lee Rouse undertaking the infamous ice bucket challenge at the end of the concert.
Best reasons
Stuart told 4BR: "We've had a great summer season and the band has put in the hard work. We're always sad to lose any of our players but in Emily's and Nessa's cases, it's for the very best of reasons."

Small ask
He added: "Lee and I discussed making use of the current ice bucket challenge craze to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease research.
It’s an insidious illness and going through the ice bucket challenge is a very small ask if it will help make lives better in any way for any sufferers of MND."
