The talented young performers of the Youth Brass Band of Upper Austria are currently enjoying a warm musical welcome on their tour to the UK.
Fabulous
The band has already enjoyed a great day in London, where they gave a concert under MD Karl Geroldinger and guest soloist Steven Mead (above) at the famous Guards Chapel at Wellington Barracks on Birdcage Walk, whilst they are only just recovering from a fabulous Tuesday evening concert with the multi award winning Youth Brass 2000 Band in Corby.
They are currently on their way to Scotland, where they will perform in a workshop and concert with the Whitburn Youth Band on Thursday, before heading back south on Friday for an exciting workshop and concert event in Manchester with the Fairey Band.
Weekend
The weekend will see them pay a visit to British Open champion Tredegar, before heading to Dorset for a Sunday concert in Christchurch. The tour ends with a concert on Monday evening at Boscombe Salvation Hall before their return home.
"It’s already been a memorable visit for the players," Steven Mead told 4BR. "They gave a tremendous concert in London and thoroughly enjoyed themselves meeting new friends with Youth Brass 2000 with a great concert in Corby on Tuesday evening."
Great concerts
That has certainly been the experience of the young players, as principal cornet player Bettina Baumschlager added.
"After two great concerts in London and with Youth Brass 2000 we are all really looking forward to the rest of the tour.
Right now we are travelling to Edinburgh along the beautiful coastal roads and looking forward to our next concert with the Whitburn Youth Band on Thursday."
Bettina will also be posting a daily blog on the 4BR site to keep everyone up to date with the band’s travels and experiences. "We have so much to look forward to, so we want to make sure everyone knows just what a great time we are having!"
Free RNCM Workshops
Steven is also looking forward showcasing the talents of these remarkable young players. "They have certainly made an immediate impression with the quality of their performances, so hopefully they will now wow the Scots, then the English again before going down to Wales!"
Steven also hopes that they will be able to meet up with many new friends at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester on Friday afternoon, as they jointly host a series of free workshops with members of the Fairey Band.
Come along
"We want as many people as possible to come along and enjoy the free workshops with the band, Fairey, myself and Karl Geroldinger at the RNCM.
It all starts at 3.30pm and there is something for everyone, with the added bonus that the players can perform in massed band items in the evening concert alongside Fairey in the RNCM Opera Theatre at 7.30pm."
