The Bolsover Summer School commences this weekend under the leadership of Foden’s stars Mark Wilkinson and Glyn Williams, who will be working alongside David Hirst, Helen Williams, Stewart Baglin, Brett Baker and Simone Rebello.
Masterclasses and concerts
As well as various masterclasses throughout the week, there will be an informal concert featuring the delegates who will be given the opportunity to perform solos, duets, group pieces to the other delegates as well as a ‘Tutor’s Treat’ concert.
Highlights of the forthcoming week include a number of outdoor concerts at picturesque venues throughout the region, including Creswell Crags on Tuesday 29th July, Bolsover Castle on the 30th, Renishaw Hall & Gardens on the 31st, before a final indoor concert at Heritage High School commencing at 7.00pm on Friday 1st August.
That concert will include pieces such as the ‘Black Knight’ march, ‘Lorenzo’, ‘Music for a Festival’ and solos from Brett Baker and Simone Rebello.
Sparke
This year the Summer School has also commissioned Philip Sparke to write a new piece entitled 'In Memoriam (to the Fallen)' as well as 'The Halls of Hardwick' from young composer David Hanson, which will be performed at the final event.
Philip will also attend the course on Friday where everyone is welcome to join him for a special ‘Audience with Philip Sparke’ before working with the band on his new commission prior to the concert.
