Gong night for EYMS

The East Yorkshire Motor Services Band has been rewarding its players after a fine 2013 season.

Bolsover champions

East Yorkshire Motor Services Band has announced its award winners for 2013 at a recent concert in Beverley.

Annual Awards

The current Bolsover Entertainment champion and Royal Albert Hall National finalist provided the audience with a fine evening of music making, which was topped off with their annual awards.

For the second year running there was a three-way tie for the ‘Players Player of the Year’, with principal cornet Neil Day, flugel star Kathy Newiss and bumper-up Bradley Hanson sharing the prize after all gained the same number of votes in a secret ballot!

Outstanding contribution

Meanwhile, for a second successive year, the ‘President’s Award for Outstanding Contribution’ went to chairman and front row solo cornet player Tony Newiss, whilst the ‘Most Improved Player’ award, decided by MD Alan Morrison, went to percussionist Alex Smith, who has been wowing audiences in recent weeks with his solo xylophone playing.

Alex is shortly heading to the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester to continue his musical studies.
