4BR has been informed that the proposed Cortonwood Mining Memorial Brass Festival, which was to be held on the 13th July has been cancelled.

Bad weather

Unfortunately, bad weather earlier in the year delayed the ongoing work schedule and it has become impossible to complete the work on site in time for the event.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Thanks go to all the bands that entered and to Barnsley Brass who were to steward the event.

The Elsecar Heritage Railway plan to run the festival in 2015 when the site will be completed and established as a fitting memorial to all the local pits that have now closed."
