Zambia based conductor and composer Dr Peter Langmead (above) has been so inspired by some of Britain’s leading brass bands that he is exploring ways to introduce their music and skill to Africa.
Great impression
Peter was in Cheshire this week as part of the five-day Allan Withington Conducting Course and made a great impression with his enthusiasm and commitment to exploring the brass band medium for the first time.
"As a Briton living abroad, my perspective of British music can sometimes be skewed," he told 4BR.
"However, spending time on Allan’s wonderful course with Foden’s Band and Roberts Bakery Band has reinforced what a fantastic tradition the UK has."
Opera
Peter, recently premiered his first opera in Lusaka, and as a result of his participation he is now actively exploring ways to bridge the musical and cultural divide and introduce British brass band music to Zambia.

Inspired
Course Director Allan Withington told 4BR: "It was wonderful to be able to work with Peter. He brought a new and exciting perspective to the course and really inspired his fellow delegates.
I wish him every success with his future endeavours and I hope we will be able to help in any way possible."
