There was a fine turn out of playing talent on show at the 5th City of Coventry & Warwickshire Brass Festival recently.
High standard
Held at Bablake School, Coventry, the competitors certainly enjoyed the convivial atmosphere, with adjudicators Stephen Cooper (City of Coventry), Dave Lea (JLR) and Trevor Jones (Coventry PAS), stating that the overall standard of performance was very high, and the sight reading sections in particular were gaining in popularity.
There was certainly keen competition in each of the section, with a number of high profile players from leading top flight bands putting their reputations on the line.
All round talent
Fairey solo horn player Paul Bennett (above) was declared ‘Festival Champion’ after he displayed his all round talents by winning the Open Slow Melody, Air Varie and Sight Reading classes.
