Report & Results: 2014 City of Coventry & Warwickshire Brass Festival

There was a fine turn out of playing talent on show at the 5th City of Coventry & Warwickshire Brass Festival recently.

High standard

Held at Bablake School, Coventry, the competitors certainly enjoyed the convivial atmosphere, with adjudicators Stephen Cooper (City of Coventry), Dave Lea (JLR) and Trevor Jones (Coventry PAS), stating that the overall standard of performance was very high, and the sight reading sections in particular were gaining in popularity.

There was certainly keen competition in each of the section, with a number of high profile players from leading top flight bands putting their reputations on the line.

All round talent

Fairey solo horn player Paul Bennett (above) was declared ‘Festival Champion’ after he displayed his all round talents by winning the Open Slow Melody, Air Varie and Sight Reading classes.

November 1 • Croy Silver Band currently has contest vacancies on Cornet and Percussion, but is always happy to accommodate enthusiastic new players in any section of the band.

November 1 • We have a solo horn vacancy to join our friendly 3rd section band. We have a sensible calendar of contests and concerts. Situated with close links to the M11/M25 and Central line tube station, with our own band room. Rehearsals Monday night 8-10pm

November 1 • NW Championship Section Rainford Band are inviting applications for a 2nd Euphonium player. We are a forward thinking and hard working band, with excellent links to M6 and M62. . We rehearse on Mon and Thurs 19.45 - 21.45 in Rainford
