Whiston ready for brass band welcome

The popular Whiston Festival of Brass takes pace this weekend.

Not all eyes and ears will be on the Tour de France in Yorkshire this weekend, as brass band enthusiasts from all over the country will make their way to the picturesque village of Whiston on the outskirts of Rotherham for the Whiston Festival of Brass.

The event has grown in popularity over the last two years with its intoxicating mix of great music, family fun activities and plenty of wonderful beer.

The event kicks off at 1.45pm with a short concert from Frickley South Elmsall Band, before the contesting action starts with the first of 12 keen as mustard contenders all hoping to catch the ear of adjudicator Stan Lippeatt.
