The University of Salford has announced details of its first International Composers Competition.
In conjunction with a number of partners they are inviting composers to pen new brass band music inspired from works created since 2000 in any style or genre.
Open
The contest is open to all ages and split into Youth Band and Advanced (Championship) levels, with the six finalists invited to an open forum workshop where their works will be performed by the King’s Division Band.
The winners will be selected by a panel which includes Dr Robin Dewhurst, Dr Howard Evans, Dan Price and Paul Lovatt-Cooper.
Broaden appeal
Brett Baker, Programme Leader at the Music & Performance Directorate told 4BR: "We are keen to broaden the appeal of brass band music and in particular attract a younger audience to the medium both from a performance and composition point of view.
This project helps to achieve that, and I am thrilled that we have the opportunity to feature finalists from this competition in university events next year."
