EBBA commits to future Challenges

The European Brass Band Association commits to the Challenge Section contest after encouraging responses from emerging nations.

Wipptal

The European Brass Band Association (EBBA) has reiterated its commitment to its revamped Challenge Contest, which they hope ‘will help further promote the intrinsic, aesthetic and social values of brass bands in Europe.’

Desire

Although the new contest only attracted four competitors in Perth in May (including one band from the host nation), EBBA was still encouraged by the response it received and the interest it generated from other emerging banding nations who expressed a desire to take part in future events — starting in Freiburg, Germany in 2015.

Improve

In its latest press release EBBA stated: "We believe the event should challenge the competing bands to prepare for and participate in the event so that they may improve their musical abilities in an international competitive environment."

They added: "It should continue to inspire non-EBBA member countries who wish to establish national Championships, preferably within a national band organisational structure."

Freiburg

The second Challenge Section event will take place at the 2015 European Brass Band Championships in Freiburg.

EBBA has also given further details of the contest structure, which will see the competitors provide a 30 minute programme of music, which will include the specially written set work by Columbian born composer Carlos Cárdenas.

Composer

Since 2012 the composer has studied composition for film music at the University of Music in Freiburg im Breisgau where he is working towards his Master diploma with Professor Brice Pauset.

2013 he was recipient of a fellowship from the Fundación Mazda para el Arte y la Ciencia in Columbia.
