Wychavon gains good response

There is plenty of time to get your entries in for the popular Wychavon Entertainment Contest — but be quick...

Wychavon

The organisers of the Wychavon Festival of Brass Contest have reported that it has received a good response from bands wishing to take part in this year’s event.

Same day

The entertainment contest takes place on Saturday 1st November, with all sections competing on the same day at Evesham High School.

The winners of the Championship Section will also gain a direct invitation to compete in the British Open Spring Festival in Blackpool the following May.

Generous

With its generous prize fund, excellent organisation and friendly welcome, the Wychavon Festival has proved to be a popular fixture on the brass band contesting calendar for many years, and with the closing date for entries marked as the 8th September this year, bands have been given ample time to make arrangements to get their entry forms in.

The top flight champion will pick up £1250, with First, Second, Third and Fourth Section winners claiming £900, £600, £500 and £400 respectively.

Lower sections

The prize money in the lower sections is amongst the best in the UK, and there are plenty of opportunities for ambitious bands to stake a claim for it.

With additional podium prizes and individual awards, there is plenty of cash and silverware to attract the bands, whilst the excellent facilities at Evesham High School make it an ideal contest to come along and enjoy a full day of high quality brass band music making.

Bands

The likes of Tredegar, Flowers and Wingates have all been triumphant at the contest in the past few years, with Aveley & Newham (above) making the trip up from London to take the 2013 top section title.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "We have already received numerous enquiries from bands wishing to take part in all sections this year, so we would ask bands who are interested in competing to get in touch with us as soon as possible."
