Widdop to take final Whit Friday bow

Well known conductor Alan Widdop is to make his final Whit Friday conducting appearance with Uppermill this year.

Alan Widdop

4BR has been informed that due to health problems, one of the great stalwart Whit Friday conductors will be making his final appearance on the circuit this year.

45 years

After 45 years competing both as a player and MD, Alan Widdop of the Uppermill Band will take his final bow at close of play on Friday night.

Alan told 4BR: "I’m not stopping conducting bands, but the overall length of the contest day and the amount of standing around that is involved has got a little too much.

After 45 years of this fantastic occasion though I don’t intend stop enjoying myself, so I will be a very interested listener from now on."

Thanks

He added: "I would like to thank all the people that I have been involved with over all these years and hope to still see many of them on this special night."
