Bands and players ready for Staveley contest weekend

Bands and players will be getting ready for a weekend of music making in Staveley this weekend.

The 8th Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band & Staveley Town Council Entertainment Contest will take place this Sunday (June 15th) at the Speedwell Rooms in Staveley.

The adjudicator for the event is David Hirst, who is sure to enjoy a host of good performances and eclectic music making from bands in three sections.

Strong training

Contest organiser Ian Knapton told 4BR: "We have had two bands withdraw in the main section but we will still have a good number of competitors and a very strong training band entry which is great to see."

The contest, which is also part of a popular Music & Real Ale weekend, kicks off at 11.00am with doors opening at 10.30am — so there should be something on offer to tickle everyone’s taste buds.

Solo prelude

As a prelude to the contest, the 3rd Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band & Raw Brewery Solo, Duet & Quartet Contest will take place on Saturday at the same venue, starting at 10.00am.

Foden’s MD Mike Fowles will be adjudicating 63 entries across 11 sections throughout the day.

Contest organiser Carrie Knapton told 4BR: "We have had a great response to the contest and we are really looking forward to hearing all the entries on the day. We would like to thank our sponsor Conceptunet for their continued support in helping us put on this great event."
