Russell Gray is putting the final touches to his latest Conducting Workshop Weekend to be held on the 21st/22nd June.
Two day event
The two day event will be based at Boarshurst Band Club, and will concentrate on rehearsal structures, conducting technique, ensemble building and soloist development, and will utilise the talents of Boarshurst Band on the Saturday and Eccles Band on the Sunday.
The National Association of Brass Band Conductors’ President told 4BR that the success of the series of workshop events he has already held has been down to the way in which delegates have explored new ideas and approaches.
Thinking
"Each event has not only given the delegates something to think about and work on, but also me," Russell said.
"Gaining confidence as well as enhancing technique is essential if you are to build a successful brass band conducting career.
I’m so pleased that so many conductors return time and again to add more experience and gain greater understanding — especially as over the two days they get to work with two very responsive bands."
Two days
Saturday starts at 12.00 noon, with Russell working with the conductors and Boarshurst Band all the way until 10.00pm, whilst the Sunday starts at 10.00am and will be rounded off with a concert at the Boarshurst Band Club performance, with each delegate having the opportunity to direct the Eccles Band.
Repertoire
Repertoire to be worked on over the two days include, ‘Oceans’ by Goff Richards, ‘Prelude for an Occasion’, ‘The Incredibles’, ‘Serenade’ by Derek Bourgeois, 'Barn Dance and Cowboy Hymn' and ‘Letters from Home’ by Pat Metheny.
"I think there is something there and more to enjoy working on," Russell added.
