The 2nd Rossendale Scout Band recently hosted a concert featuring current North West Regional champions Fairey, directed by professional MD Garry Cutt, at St. Mary's Church in Rawtenstall.
Commemorated
The evening commemorated the events and sacrifice of servicemen in the First World War, and saw the 2nd Rossendale Scout Band give a moving performance of a new work entitled, ‘Flanders Field’ by Dan Price.
The concert also helped to raise funds for future Remembrance Parades in Rossendale.
The nine minute work was also set to film, with accompanying narration read from parts of a letter written by a relative of one of families of the Rossendale Scout Band to his son, from the battlefields in 1916.

Highlights
In a concert of many highlights, Fairey’s principal cornet Paul Hughes also gave a beautifully lyrical rendition of the solo, ‘Dimitri’ by Rodney Newton.
The Scout band will now record ‘Flanders Field’ and along with the film accompaniment to be released onto You Tube in the next few weeks.
