A rare combination of great British weather, fantastic brass band music and wonderful beer greeted visitors to the second running of the popular Wood Farm Brewery Entertainment Contest.
Open air
Set in the wonderful open air setting at the Farm Brewery in the Midlands, each of the nine local bands treated the large listening audience to their 30 minute entertainment programmes.
Adjudicators Dave Lea and Rob Stew had pleasure in awarding a cupboard full of prizes, and also commented that it was good to see so many talented youngsters playing such an active part in each of the performances.
Bedworth victory
Bedworth Brass under the baton of Alwyn Green took a clean sweep in the joint First/Second Section event, as well as the prize as the best band on the day.
Tuba star Fred Wilson also took the solo prize for a brilliant effort of both playing and dressing up in a very sweaty bear costume to give his cracking rendition of Sandy Smith’s arrangement of ‘The Bare Necessities....’
Enderby win
In the Unregistered/Youth Section, there was also plenty of great playing on show, with Enderby Concert pipping rivals Wigston Enterprise with Enderby Youth in third.
Corby Silver took the Fourth Section honours, whilst organisers, Sarah Milnes and John Randle deserve great credit for such an enterprising event.
Next year has already been pencilled in for May 16th.
