The Yorkshire Imperial David Urquhart Travel Band has announced the appointment of Danish cornet virtuoso Stig Maersk to succeed David Nesbitt as their new Musical Director.

Experience

The former principal cornet with Danish champion, Concord Brass, prior to studying trumpet at the Danish Royal Academy, Stig has since played professionally with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and Band of the Danish Royal Guards as well as working as Musical Director of the Aarhus and Concord Bands.

He and his wife moved to Yorkshire in 2012 where he now teaches brass at the University of York St John. In 2013 he was appointed Musical Director of the National Youth Band of Denmark.

I know he is excited to have the opportunity to work with a band with a great history and is very much looking forward to further extending our musical boundariesBand Chairman Mark Tweedle

Excellent rapport

Band Chairman Mark Tweedle told 4BR: "Stig quickly established an excellent rapport with the band when he guided our preparations for the Yorkshire Area contest, and all of our players are looking forward to working with him on a permanent basis."

He added: "I know he is excited to have the opportunity to work with a band with a great history and is very much looking forward to further extending our musical boundaries."
