The Swiss Brass Band Association has announced the list of brand new set works to be performed by competing bands at the 40th Championship event in Montreux on the weekend of the 29th/30th November this year.
Historic double
With the nation still reeling in celebration following their historic ‘Double’ success in Perth, which saw Brass Band Burgermusik Luzern claim the European title and Liberty Brass Band Junior win the Premier Section of the European Youth Championship, there is bound to be an even more exciting atmosphere to enjoy at the Stravinsky Auditorium.
New Waespi work
There is also certain to be added tension in the Championship ‘Excellence’ Division contest (trophy above), as the bands tackle the latest work by the highly respected composer Oliver Waespi entitled, ‘A Voice in Them’, in addition to their own choice selections.
With Luzern already pre-qualified as European champion for Freiburg in 2015, a second Swiss band will join them at the contest.
Hodel, Moren
Meanwhile, Stephan Hodel, who wrote the European B Section set work ‘Vertex’ in 2011 will provide the First Division set work, ‘A Lenda do Curupira’, with Bertrand Moren’s new work, ‘The Son of Light’ facing the Second Division bands.
Flow
‘Cha the Caldeiras’ by Pierre Schmidhäusler is the set test for the Third Division with another highly inventive work by Mario Buerki, entitled, ‘Flow!’ for the Fourth Division contest.
All the works will be published and available to the bands from August this year, whilst 4BR will once again be in Montreux to cover the event.
