Elland Silver Youth Band organisation has been celebrating its latest successes at the recent National Youth Brass Band Championships.
Over 50 of its brass and percussion players took part in the event which was held at Salford University earlier this month.
Highly commended
For the second year running the Elland Silver Starter Band (above) led by David Armitage gained a ‘Highly Commended’ Award in its Beginners Class.
The Elland players are all under 11 years of age, with several of the younger members only starting to learn to play last September. Several of the children receive music tuition in local primary schools as part of the bands outreach brass programme.
Most potential
Further success was also enjoyed by the Elland Silver Training Band conducted by Samantha Harrison, who gained the ‘Band with Most Potential’ and a Silver Awards. It was the first time the Training Band had competed at the competition.
Fantastic time
Band Secretary, Kathleen Harrison told 4BR: "Once again we are so proud of our young people. They worked hard for the competition, performed brilliantly and enjoyed a fantastic time.
We are looking forward to taking part again next year."
