4BR has been informed by the organiser's of the British Open Spring Festival of a change of venue for the Senior Cup.
Arena
The competition was due to be held in the Pavilion Theatre in two weeks time, but will now take place in the Arena auditorium within the complex.
Contest controller, Frank Hodges was informed on Thursday afternoon (10th April) by the Winter Gardens management team that due to circumstances beyond their control the Pavilion Theatre would not be able to be used on Saturday 26th April.
Discussions
Having taken stock of the situation and following discussions with the owners of the British Open, Karyn & Martin Mortimer, an agreement was quickly reached.
In making the announcement, Frank Hodges apologised to the bands, conductors, judges and audience for the late change of venue, and thanked everyone in advance for their co-operation and patience on the day.
It will be the first time the Arena has been used for a band contest since the National Mineworkers Contest which ended its tenure in Blackpool a few years ago.
Relief
Speaking with 4BR, Frank Hodges was just relieved that a solution had been found and that the contest will run as planned:
"To say, I'm relieved is an understatement. In all my years in banding, I can't remember a more stressful period of time as this is something I had no control over whatsoever."
