A number of bands took the opportunity recently to showcase their Area preparations ahead of the Yorkshire and Midlands Regional Championships in a well organised event run by the North East Midlands Brass Band Association (NEMBBA) at The Post Mill Centre, South Normanton in Derbyshire.
Solid performances
Stan Lippeatt had plenty of solid performances to ponder over in the box as Strata Brass gave themselves a huge boost ahead of their St George’s Hall appearance by claiming the First Section honours under David Holling with a fine performance of ‘Cry of the Mountain’.
The band also picked up several individual awards including ‘Best Principal Cornet’ (Amanda Holling), ’Best Soprano’ (Danny Bell), ‘Best Trombone’ (David Smith) and ‘Best Percussion’ (Robert Hardy, Faith Bowles, David Fretwell).
In the other sections there were victories for Yorkshire’s Chapletown Silver, Trentham Brass and Maltby Miners Welfare.
