Thoresby Colliery Band is starting to put the finishing touches to their preparation for the Midland Regional Championships, to be held in Bedworth on Sunday 9th March.

Free event

Under conductor Brian Grant, the band will be holding its first open rehearsal on ‘St Magnus’ in conjunction with the University of Nottingham.

The free event takes place at the Lakeside Arts Centre at the University of Nottingham, NG7 2RD, in the Djanogly Recital Hall on Thursday 6th March, from 7.30pm.

Looking forward

Committee member Kieren Williams was certainly positive about the new venture, when speaking to 4BR: "The University of Nottingham has world class facilities, and the band is looking forward to playing in the fabulous Djanogly Recital Hall.

Not only will it be an invaluable part of our preparation ahead of Bedworth, it will also give the public a rare chance to see the band put through its paces."

Signing

Meanwhile the band has also announced the signing of James Findlay on 2nd baritone from Matlock Band who just happens to study at the University.

Band Manager Pete Pimperton added: "We are delighted James decided to come on board and join our hard working team.

We have an exciting year ahead and the band continues to go from strength to strength with the addition of players such as James."
