Pontypool Brass has announced that it will not be taking part in the Welsh Are contest in Llandudno this year.
Although the band has represented Wales at the National Finals in 2012 and 2013, events outside their control have meant that they are unable to try and make it a hat trick of Cheltenham appearances.
Important events
A spokesperson told 4BR: "The weekend of the contest at Llandudno coincides with a number of important events in the lives of the band members.
In addition to work and university commitments, two of the band's key players are undergoing major operations in the weeks leading up to the contest, with baritone player Kate Blakemore undergoing serious spinal surgery Janice Cooke having knee surgery."

Birth
They added: "Meanwhile, flugel player Bethan Moore, is due to give birth shortly before the contest, so with other players also having unforeseen problems, it has meant we have had to reluctantly withdraw to concentrate on our local contests for the remainder of the year.
We are currently enjoying rehearsals under the baton of up-and-coming conductor David Langley in the temporary absence of Owen Farr — also due to work commitments, so in our absence we wish the competitors in all sections all the very best.”
