The Fairey Band has announced the signing of three high profile Welsh players as they seek to regain the North West Regional Championship title in Blackpool in March.
Experienced
The experienced Paul Hughes has agreed to continue as principal cornet after initially joining the band late last year, whilst the talented Nick Hughes, formerly principal cornet of Masters champion Beaumaris, teams up with his uncle on the front row cornet bench.
The duo is joined by Eb tuba star Gavin Saynor, who most recently played with British Open champion Tredegar.
Major coup
MD Garry Cutt told 4BR that the Welsh trio represent a major signing coup for the Stockport band as they look towards the future.
"These three class players will have a huge impact on the future outlook of Fairey. It isn’t often that you see the dedication they are renowned for and they have already given us a massive boost.
I’m delighted Paul has accepted our invite to continue as principal cornet. Having him sat next to the legendary Brian Taylor is a dream for any conductor. Nick is a wonderful young player, whilst Gavin’s class is known worldwide."

Exciting
Garry added: "All this and we have Jonathan Probert settling superbly into his new role on soprano, our horn section playing so well and the talented Josh Certina coming in on bass trombone.
There is vibrancy in Fairey rehearsals that I have not witnessed for such a long time. The future looks pretty exciting to say the least."
