Norwegian link for Welsh youth

Reid Gilje will lead the National Youth Brass Band of Wales on their summer course this year.

The National Youth Brass Band of Wales has announced that the highly respected Norwegian conductor, composer and arranger Reid Gilje will lead its residential course in North Wales in July.

Two concerts

The course will culminate in two concerts at Canolfan Beaumaris on 25th July and Wrexham’s William Aston Hall on 26th July.

With his worldwide reputation enhanced during his long term conducting, arranging and composing role with the Norwegian champions Eikanger Bjorsvik Band, Reid takes the position after also leading the National Youth Brass Band of Switzerland in 2011.

Jazz and contemporary

4BR has been informed that this year’s course will reflect his interest in jazz and contemporary music as well as including the winning entry of the Ty Cerdd Young Composer Competition 2014.

February 17 • Boarshurst Silver Band, NW Championship Section, requires a BBb player, flugel, and front row cornet player. Under MD Jamie Prophet, the band have an ambitious and varied calendar for 2025, including NW Area, Spring Festival and Whit Friday.
