Horn spotlight at Dyke Festival

The tenor horn comes under the spotlight once again — this time at the forthcoming Black Dyke Festival in Leeds

Black Dyke

The tenor horn is getting some serious spotlight coverage in 2014, with the Black Dyke Brass Arts Festival the latest high profile event to give the instrument and its players a huge boost.

Spotlight

The popular festival will be held on Sunday 23rd March at Leeds Town Hall, where the inaugural 'Tenor Horn Spotlight', will be organised and led by Black Dyke’s principal horn Jonny Bates with assistance from Helen Varley and Alison Childs.

Starting at 10.00am, delegates will have the chance to engage in a number of workshops, focussing on solo, small/large ensemble and section playing.

In concert with Dyke

The afternoon gala concert is provided by Black Dyke in the stunning main hall, and for the first time, the delegates will be given the unique opportunity to be able to take part in a massed tenor horn feature with the band under the baton of Director of Music Dr Nicholas Childs.

Special parts

A Black Dyke spokesperson told 4BR: "We will be planning the day's activities to cover all abilities and ages, from expert to beginner, with special parts being created for the feature piece to accommodate all players."
