Recitals to help Philippines Disaster Relief

A series of high profile recital performances hope to raise awareness and funds for the Philippines disaster relief.

A new recital series featuring top class brass musicians will tour around the UK this year in a bid to help raise funds for the Philippines Disaster Relief Fund.

Haiyan Series

The Haiyan Recital Series is the idea of Artistic Director and renowned trumpeter Jonathan Clarke, whose wife Rose Marie who is from Batangas city in the Philippines.

He told 4BR: "Fortunately our relatives are so far unaffected, but many of our friends and people we hold dear have been, so we felt compelled to raise awareness and funds, through what we do best, music."

Launch

The recital series launches on Sunday 12th January in Orpington with additional dates in Putney, Bridgend, Cardiff and Chesham to be announced.

The Orpington concert will include performances by some of the country’s finest brass musicians on works as diverse as Telemann, Gershwin, Mozart and Handel.

Interest

John added: "Musicians from a wide range of backgrounds and genres have pledged their support and we have already generated a great deal of interest and help for various individuals and groups."

Typhoon ‘Haiyan’ or ‘Yolanda’ as it is referred to in the Philippines was an exceptionally powerful tropical cyclone that devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines, in early November 2013. It is reported to have killed over 6,000 people.
