Members of the French brass band 'Just Brass 79' recently said a fond farewell to Robert Burnett as he and partner Carol prepared to return to Wales to live.
Presentation
The pair was presented with a box of 'Pineau des Charentes' wine and a framed picture of the local Chateau and Lake at Javarzay close to where they lived in St Martin d'Entraigues, France.
The former Cory euphonium star came to Just Brass79, (an Anglo/French brass band), in 2009 when the group found themselves urgently seeking a conductor just 10 days before a concert.
Help out
Robert agreed to take on the conducting role for the concert with only one rehearsal, and afterwards agreed to help out until a replacement conductor could be found.
He not only became conductor, but helped out the bass section when needed, and took on the role of band trainer and solo euphonium, thrilling many an audience with his renditions of ‘Carnival of Venice’ and ‘Myfanwy’.

Missed
Band spokesperson George Bell told 4BR: "Robert and Carol will be missed by the group, who would like to express their thanks for all he has done to help the band, as well as helping in promoting the brass band scene in south west France.
We wish them both well on their return to Wales, and Robert, in his new chapter of banding with the Mid Rhondda Band."
