125 years of Tongwynlais Temperance Band history is set to be celebrated later this month as the 2013 Welsh Area champion holds a special anniversary concert under the baton of MD Steve Sykes.
Champion
The event will be hosted by soprano star Beverley Humphries, a long time champion and advocate of brass banding through her popular Radio Wales music programme, which regularly features recordings from bands throughout the Principality.
One of the very last bands to still include ‘Temperance’ in its title, Tongwynlais hails from the small village that sits in the shadow of the famous Castell Coch – immortalised in the famous march by TJ Powell.
Success
The band has also recently enjoyed the most successful period in their long history — culminating in a fourth place finish at the National Finals in 2012 and winning the Welsh Area title for the first time in March.
2013 has also seen other highlights too, including a taste of fame with comedian Rhod Gilbert on his acclaimed television series ‘Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience’.
