Old Silkstone celebrate Blast of success

After a year of rebuilding Old Silkstone were back to winning ways at the recent Bolsover Festival of Brass.

Old Silkstone

After a year of re-development and strengthening, the Old Silkstone Brass band was delighted with a fantastic victory in the Second Section at the recent Bolsover Festival of Brass Competition.

Blast

Under the baton of MD Simon Kerwin, their winning programme combined music from the American Tony & Emmy winning sensations ‘Blast’ and the fabulous Mnozil Brass.

In addition, they also added some traditional classics as well as a highly polished performance of Goedicke’s ‘Concert Etude’, played by principal cornet Tabby Clegg which won her the ‘Best Soloist’ Award from adjudicator Dr. Keith Wilkinson.

Old Silkstone is now looking forward to investing energy in 2014 into a new concert series and a host of youth focussed eventsTabby Clegg

New players

A delighted Tabby told 4BR: "With the addition of a brace of new players and several more signings prior to our final contest of the year, Old Silkstone is now looking forward to investing energy in 2014 into a new concert series and a host of youth focussed events."
