The Wessex Tubas stand was very busy at the recent National Championships at Cheltenham with two new instruments receiving particular appreciative attention.
Mighty Midget
Following on from their popular little Eb ‘Bubbie’ tuba, Wessex has now added to the range a larger bore and fatter brother, the ‘Mighty Midget’ BBb tuba.
The incredible instrument is based on a 19th century design of small back-pack tuba made for Austro-Hungarian military bands, and although standing at only 52cm high, it provides a proper bass sound making it suitable to use in band.
Holiday home
It’s therefore ideal for standing and marching gigs, as well as small BBb bass to keep at home for practice, or even to take on holiday!

Cimbasso beast
Wessex Tubas has also added the remarkable tuba/trombone cimbasso to its range which is used in Italian opera instead of a tuba.
It is a beast of an instrument – and one that is becoming increasingly popular in film music score and performances.
Why not try one yourself!
