In an effort to raise the funds needed to send Carlton Main Frickley Colliery to the National Finals in London next month, the Yorkshire champion has received a boost from an Olympic boxing champion.
Skills
In addition to recent concert and television recordings for the local news ‘Look North’ and the BBC’s ‘Songs of Praise’ programme, where the band’s singing skills impressed the producer David Grant almost as much as their playing, they also took part in an Arriva awards ceremony at Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium.
The band was conducted (just for a few bars) by a smiling Olympic boxing champion Nicola Adams, who showed a great uppercut and right cross beat pattern to lead the band in!
It was another great opportunity to show the community who we are and what we do. Nicola was wonderful and the support we have been given with donations and support is really helping usCarlton Main Frickley
Great opportunity
A band spokesperson told 4BR: "It was another great opportunity to show the community who we are and what we do. Nicola was wonderful and the support we have been given with donations and support is really helping us. We have plenty of people to thank!"
