Any sign of nerves was soon got rid of at the very first rehearsal of the newly formed Wessex Brass Band Association Youth Band at its Bridge High School in Fordingbridge recently.
Aim
With a principal aim of providing top class musical challenges and tutelage for young people who belong to member bands of the association, experienced tutors helped lead the young players through some wonderful music.
Such was the progress made that the end course concert for parents and friends included a rare performance of ‘Patterns’ by Edward Gregson, originally written for the 1975 Butlins Youth Championship, as well as Kenneth Downie’s hymn ‘Lord of All Hopefulness’, and a number of other lighter items.
Next time
The next rehearsal of the band will now take place on 8th September at Bridge High School, Fordingbridge, with new players welcome.
The Wessex BBA committee hope that the newly formed band will perform to an expectant crowd waiting for the results of the Association’s Annual contest on the 30th November in Bournemouth.
