Andrews to lead Wingates

Wingates announce the appointment of Paul Andrews as their new Musical Director.

Paul Andrews

The Wingates Band has announced the appointment of Paul Andrews as their new Musical Director.

Paul succeeds Andrew Berryman, who has recently embarked upon a second spell working in Abu Dhabi.

Experience

The new man in the middle brings extensive experience as both player and conductor, having been principal euphonium of Leyland for many years. As a conductor he has directed Grimethorpe, Foden's, Carlton Main Frickley Colliery and Besses o' th’ Barn amongst others, although he initially made his name in spearheading the remarkable rise of Bactiguard Wire Brass.

Joint role

Paul is currently conductor of Golborne Band, where he will continue his role, and it is hoped that in future some joint ventures between the two Lancashire ensembles can be undertaken.

Paul initially assisted Wingates at the Brighouse March & Hymn Contest in June, and his appointment comes at a very exciting time with our 140th anniversary celebrations already well under wayWingates Band

Exciting time

A Wingates spokesperson told 4BR: "Paul initially assisted Wingates at the Brighouse March & Hymn Contest in June, and his appointment comes at a very exciting time with our 140th anniversary celebrations already well under way."

Paul recently conducted the band in a ‘Listen to the Band’ recording session with the subsequent transmission scheduled for the 28th August, and will also lead them on their forthcoming recording for a new celebratory double-disc CD album – ‘From Bible Class to World Class’.
