Newly appointed Brass Bands England Chairman Mike Kilroy has told 4BR that work has already started with what he calls ‘a root and branch’ review across four main areas of the organisation.
Impartial
"These are being led by four independent, impartial sector specialists funded by Enterprising Barnsley, an outstanding business support scheme run by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council," he said.
"It will be a root and branch review to include our organisation and working systems, human resources, finances and the BBE’s website, branding and communications presence."
Professional help
Mike also revealed that much needed professional help and assistance has also been forthcoming since his appointment, with chartered accountant Mike Waterson and the vastly experienced Ray Sykes MBE joining to give valuable input to the organisation.
He added: "I’m delighted to welcome both Mike and Ray on board, whilst we will also be looking for help in other identified skill gap areas too."
English National and Registry
The new Chairman also confirmed that he will be writing to 15 top English ranked bands to consult with them about the future of the English National Championship, whilst a review over the future of the British Brass Band Registry will start in August.
He concluded: "There is a lot to do, but thanks to a fully committed and enthusiastic team we are cracking on with things.
Outreach to current and potential members is critical. We have got off to a good start, but there is still a great deal more to be done."
