At their recent Summer concert Test Valley Brass Youth Band along with their beginner band ‘Frostys’ performed to a near capacity audience.
Wonderful evening
Both ensembles delivered a wonderful evening of music making, with young soloists Michael Wharton, Hannah Corner and Izzy Rutherford all on tip top form.
The talented learners of Frostys stole the show and were joined by the ‘Prelims’ who are the very beginner players who haven’t yet progressed to joining the learner outfit.
Great music
There was plenty of great music to enjoy – from ‘Eventide’ to ‘Yellow Submarine’ and even a touch of ‘La Bamba’ and ‘Gladiator’!
Awards were also made, with the ‘Players Player’ trophy claimed by Daniel Phillips. The ‘Bandsperson of the Year’ went to Ben Kirby and the Frostys award for the ‘Most Determined Player’ went to a very deserving Bethany Rosier.

Say goodbye
Unfortunately the band had to say goodbye to a number of players as they move to pastures new.
MD Alun Grace told the audience: "This year we say goodbye to trombonist Michael Wharton who is moving to Southampton with his family, solo baritone Hannah Corner who is heading off to Plymouth University, principal cornet Izzy Rutherford who is going to Birmingham University and percussionist Gavin Brewer who is taking up an apprenticeship."
Also moving to just outside Worcester is Andrea Rutherford, who has been a loyal tutor, helper and member of Test Valley Brass for over twelve years.
