One of the brass band movement’s most popular players and conductors is set to face his most nervous appearance in front of an audience this weekend.
Married
William ‘Billy’ Rushworth, resident conductor at Grimethorpe Colliery Band and one of the great tenor horn players of recent years, will be marrying his beloved Michelle Catlow in Cleckheaton, and has told 4BR that even after performing on some of the greatest contest and concert stages in the world this appearance is perhaps the most daunting!
Happy but nervous
"I’m so happy – but also so nervous," he told 4BR. "I know everything from everyone else will be perfect, so I just hope I can play my part too!"
The happy couple will be joined by a 10 piece band made up of friends and players from Grimethorpe Colliery Band, with the ensemble playing a special arrangement by William’s close friend, Dennis Wilby, of ‘Les Preludes’ during the signing of the register and recession.
It’s going to be one of the very best days of my life – with my beautiful wife to be, friends, colleagues, family and even a few people in the pews judging my performance too!William Rushworth
Webster's father
Roger Webster is also playing ’O My Beloved Father’, so you can see why William may be a bit nervous!
